Making Statements and Calling them Personal

The other day I was reading this article about five famous CEO's and the personal mission statements that they made for themselves.  I have always known mission statements to be something that are done on a corporate level, but never on a personal level.  And in all honesty, I was pretty excited at what I saw.

For instance, I never really liked Oprah because I thought that she just gained success.  I didn't really think or assume she had a mission statement OR that she got anywhere by staying true to herself.  Her mission statement is simply: "To be a teacher.  And to be known for inspiring my students to be more than they thought they could be."  Looking at what she has done in her life, I think that she has stayed pretty true to herself.  Through that she has gained international success.

I have thought for the last few days what my mission statement could be.  Honestly, I wasn't sure what I would want my personal mission statement to be, especially since I was reading this article right after being in a doctor's office being told that I had to take a break from what I thought was my life's passion.  I had been known for something, and now I wouldn't be known for it anymore.  Hmm...downfall or major thinking opportunity?  So...I have been constantly thinking and exploring and praying and being completely honest with myself on who I am.  Then the other day, I saw this picture posted on facebook:

Annnndddddd...BAM!  There we go.  I really enjoyed this.
It resonated in my soul.
Everything within me got ÜBER excited and my brain went into super overdrive.

And what came out is what will become a mission statement for my life:
I want to inspire people by encouraging them to never give up on their dreams, relationships, or who they want to become by giving to them with my time, written words, gifts, physical touch, or other similar random acts of kindness so they can know how valuable they are.

And there we go.  This is who I want to be.
This is who I have always been.
Another piece of the mosaic is now in place.
And now...let life begin...completely true to myself. :)
